Typical Product Applications
Hollow Glass Cenospheres
Due to their lightweight and low thermal conductivity these hollow glass microspheres are used in the manufacture of buoyancy modules and thermal insulation materials for offshore oil and gas industry applications.
They are also frequently used in products requiring density, cost, noise reduction and improved stiffness such as Marine Decks and Aerospace applications.
Solid Glass Microspheres
Typical applications are injection-moulded products where the spherical shape of the microspheres enables higher filler loadings and reduced melt viscosity, reducing the cost of the parts by replacing more expensive resins. Technical applications include the inclusion of glass microspheres to reduce and control shrinkage in thick sections, improve impact and thermal performance of the finished parts such as for Automotive under bonnet components.
The glass microspheres can be used as a replacement for inorganic extenders in paints and coatings. Due to their spherical shape and low oil absorption, higher loadings are possible reducing cost by replacing more expensive resins.
Solid Magnetite Microspheres
Areas where due to its physical properties, such as, density, Magnetite is used for sound deadening insulation and components in Automotive and Public Transport.

RockTron Biocide Coated Glass Microspheres
An exciting development is the coating of RockTron glass microspheres with RockTron Biocide, an organic microbiocide / fungicide, which is certified to control a vast range of bacteria such as MRSA, Clostridium Difficile, and fungi. A range of applications is envisaged such as flooring in hospitals, care homes, sports facilities, schools etc. Paints and coatings for walls and ceilings requiring antibacterial properties where the RockTron Biocide / RockTron combination will provide many years of protection at low cost.
