How can Alpha be used?
Alpha is designed to be used in combination with Portland cement (CEM I), therefore any potential user with two silos, one for CEM I can take delivery of Alpha in the second silo.
Where is there evidence to confirm that concrete containing Alpha performs better than just PFA?
Alpha is a refined product from PFA and concentrates the silicates/aluminates from cement hydration to make them more effective than those found in standard PFA.. Thus a greater proportion of Alpha can be used in conjunction with CEM I than for PFA
If Alpha is so wonderful then, why isn't everybody using it in concrete?
When Alpha becomes available to the market, then it is probable that those who use combination cements will find Alpha a more economic and better technical proposition.
Does the use of Alpha in concrete improve the sustainability credentials of a building or structure?
Yes, because the proportion used in a cement combination is increased and Alpha is a low embodied energy product that also enhances durability.

Is Alpha accepted by construction regulatory bodies such as Building Regulations, British Standards, etc?
Yes, since Alpha conforms in every respect to existing standards that allow product compliance but, in addition, is a more refined material with better performance in concrete.
Can I use Alpha for 'special' concretes such as SCC, high strength concrete, etc?
Most certainly, because Alpha permits greater scope to increase consistence and long term strength development.
What are the cost advantages of using Alpha?
Alpha will normally be cheaper than both CEM I or GGBS and can be used in greater proportions in combination with cement than is possible with PFA.
Cement can be made without a pozzolan (PFA), so why even consider PFA?
Controlled quality PFA has proved to be an exceptional product in the improvement of the long-term properties of hardened concrete in every application where CEM I would or has been used. Alpha now extends that performance
If I change to Alpha, what assurances are there that supplies will continue?
The RockTron process operates 24/7 throughout the year and is not a seasonal product like traditional PFA. Additionally the RockTron capacity will increase as further plants are built into the UK.
