"Product stewardship" is the guiding principle of all those involved in the life cycle of a product, to take shared responsibility for the different impacts its production, use and disposal may have on the environment and the health of the nation.
RockTron recognises that the greater the potential to influence this product life cycle an individual or organisation has, the greater their responsibility. Typical stakeholders include manufacturers, retailers, consumers, and government.
Responsible product stewardship uses incentives to encourage manufacturers to reassess the entire product life-cycle and its multiple impacts through product design, production, packaging, energy and raw material consumption; air and water emissions; the amount of toxins contained in the product; worker safety, waste disposal and to take increasing responsibility for the end-of-life management of the products they make.
RockTron Group’s commitment to product stewardship is already evident from its proprietary production process and 100% recovered product portfolio. The RockTron beneficiation process produces no waste stream, utilizes all of the original waste fly ash and separates it currently into five distinct product ranges.
As a portfolio of recycled materials that have been enhanced by our proprietary production process the resulting product range delivers low embodied energy / low CO2 materials that support the sustainable development agendas of our customers. Substituting RockTron materials in a wide variety of industrial applications reduces the call on traditional mineral extraction and so conserves the planet’s finite mineral resources.

Two examples of the potential benefits of RockTron processed materials:
- Each production plant recovers sufficient reuseable coke (coal without volatiles) to deliver a further 2.5 million giga-joules of energy back to the power station each year.
- Substituting high percentages of RockTron Alpha in place of Ordinary Portland Cement could deliver carbon dioxide reductions to the cement industry in excess of 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
Our plants are located immediately next to the power stations’ supply of stockpiled fly ash so minimising transportation of raw materials.
Our business and product stewardship approach is genuinely environmentally sustainable.
