The RockTron business is built around recycling and processing a waste by-product from coal fired power stations, known as PFA or fly ash.
Whereas traditional mining businesses inevitably involve the extraction of raw materials from mines and quarries, RockTron beneficiates an existing by product and in the process transforms a waste stream into usable, valuable minerals and materials for use in a wide variety of industries.
Unlike traditional mining companies the raw material we process is stockpiled in clearly identifiable sites adjacent to coal- fired power stations worldwide with existing stockpiles of fly ash estimated at several billion tonnes.
A key feature of the RockTron process is our ability to recycle and process stockpiled fly ash which means that RockTron production plants can be built on the site of decommissioned power stations as well as current coal-fired power stations.
In short, RockTron plants can run long after the life of the power station has ended, helping remediate the site and turning a waste stockpile into usable minerals and materials.
As every plant we currently build has a typical 25 year supply of fly ash we represent a long term commercial solution to both a local and global industrial waste problem.
Our business is the business of processing fly ash – once we have completed that task our job is done on a given fly ash deposit and we can then remove our production plant, remediating the site so that new uses can be found for the land.
While every modern business must look towards greater sustainability in its impact on the world, there can be few new businesses predicated on helping solve a global problem of this magnitude.
There can be fewer still that go on to produce a range of innovative raw materials and minerals, many with unique properties and characteristics, that both save the extraction of finite natural resources and provide outstanding and often superior performance as feed stocks in a wide variety of essential industries.
This is the RockTron Way of contributing towards greater sustainability around the world.
