The recent huge spillage of fly ash in the USA at the Kingston Fossil Plant located on Watts Bar reservoir on the Tennessee river has thrown the storage of fly ash into the glare of the environmental spotlight. The US has over 1,300 dumps storing billions of tonnes of fly ash waste and the total volume keeps increasing year on year. Yet there is no coordinated national policy or means for effective reduction and recycling of this waste – until now.
The RockTron PFA (fly ash) Beneficiation Process offers both a commercial processing solution for such huge ash dumps and a long-term environmental solution to the removal, reutilisation and remediation of this stockpiled waste. The significance of this plant for the US government is huge. Firstly, it can process both fresh and stockpiled fly ash, enabling stored fly ash to be usefully removed from long-term storage. Secondly, it can recycle 100% of the fly ash, leaving no waste. Thirdly, it can safely separate out the components of fly ash such as the metals, cenospheres, cementitious materials and other minerals into ready to use industrial products. Even the coke (coal without volatiles) can extracted and re-burnt in the power station.
To find out more about how RockTron processes both fresh and stockpiled fly ash, and to enquire about building RockTron fly ash processing plants near any significant long-term storage facility, contact us at
